Comic Books originated in 1933, but first gained national popularity after the debut of two of America’s all-time superheroes, Action Comics Superman in 1938, and Detective Comics Batman in 1939.
These two superheroes ushered in what is commonly referred to as ‘The Golden Age of comic books’.
This superhero boom lasted until the end of World War II. After the war, while superheroes were marginalized, the comic book industry rapidly expanded and genres such as horror, crime, science fiction, and romance became popular.
The 1950s saw a gradual decline, due to a shift away from print media in the wake of television and the impact of the Comics Code Authority.
Silver Age of Comic Books.
In the late 1950s and the 1960s, Comic Books saw a superhero revival with such superheroes as Spider-man who made his debut in Amazing Fantasy #15.
